What is Spotlight Theatre?
Spotlight Theatre is a nonprofit middle school theatre company. We rehearse and perform live plays, while at the same time fostering community within our casts. To do this we create a balance between rehearsing scenes, getting to know the characters, and playing drama games as a group to improve acting skills and teamwork
What makes Spotlight different from other theatre programs?
Spotlight is staffed entirely by high school volunteers. Because our staff doesn’t have to think back very far to remember what middle school was like, we have an easy time getting to know our actors and creating a program designed specifically for them. We are experts at striking the balance between productivity and fun!
Spotlight is a nonprofit. Our staff is made up of volunteers who are here solely because they love theatre and want to improve the middle school acting experience. We always ensure that cost is never a barrier for any actor to join the Spotlight community.
Spotlight’s focus is on ensemble acting. This means that there are no prerequisites to succeeding in our program (such as previous acting experience or special talents). The only things we ask for are hard work and a kind attitude. We write our own scripts to make sure that every actor has a part in the show that they can excel in and be proud of; there are no “Tree #3”s in Spotlight- every character is essential.
